Events - Event View

This class will teach you how to take charge of your kayak and travel safely on class 1 rivers.  We will talk about equipment, discuss how to properly enter and exit a kayak, learn and practice lots of different types of strokes, basic river reading, identifying and avoiding hazards.  In addition to learning how to handle your boat, we will talk about what happens if you are out of your boat.  Plan to get wet!

What to bring:

• Kayak (any kind)  - Kayaks and paddles can be rented from various outfitters if you need one.  Please contact the event coordinator for information on rental.
• Kayak Paddle
• Life Jacket that fits properly - (you will not be able to participate without a life jacket).
• At least 2 liters of Water
• Lunch 
• A open mind and a great attitude.
  

Additional Requirements:

• You must be a member of the Bluff City Canoe Club to register for this event.  If you are member, you will need to login to complete the registration.  If you are not a member, you can join here: Member Signup / Information.  The cost is $30 and covers your entire family.
• For insurance purposes, you must be a member of the American Canoe Association (ACA).   There are 2 options for joining.
