Imagine yourself ON and IN a crystal-clear, 55 degree spring fed river - chillaxing . . . while Memphis folks swelter in the humidity of it's own heat island.
Break-away! Come with us to cooler climes and attitudes @ Sunburst Ranch Resort.
This will be our base of operations on August 24-26 as we take our annual journey to the North Fork o/t White river.
The camp offers up tent sites as well as some RV sites with water and electric, Cabins may be available also,
The bathhouse is in the center of the camp area and is clean and maintained by camp staff.
Sunburst has a boat livery and rents watercraft of various types for your paddling needs.
The camp has a breakfast menu for Saturday morning and a dinner cooked onsite for Saturday night. You must tell the staff you would like to dine with them when you check-in. Menu info is on the Sunburst website.
There is VERY LIMITED resupply resources near-by so stock-up well before you arrive. Sunburst has a small inventory of items onsite. Ice. hot coffee, sunglasses, camp items, T-shirts, etc.
West Plains has a retail hell area @ the junction of US 63 and US 160. This is at the turn we make to the West and continue to the campground.
The last and closest "convenience type store " is in the community of Caulfield, Mo., just before the turn on Hwy H and on to the camp.

The Saturday plan is to paddle down from Hammond Camp access for 12 river miles to Sunburst Ranch, our take-out for the day.
We will meet at the parking area along the road just East of the camp store/bathhouse @ 8:00~8:15 Saturday morning for our pre-float meeting and shuttle planning.
This is a Class 0-I float, most of our route is within the Mark Twain National Forest. There is very little human encroachment or access to outside resources in the National Forest reach of the river.
This run does have a fun little drop that is a ledge and creates a small waterfall (1.5~2' drop). There is a notch in the ledge, just to right of center, if you are going to run it this is the recommended route. There is also a portage on river left if needed.
We will be on the river all day paddling and playing in the springs, so bring a lunch for gravel bar dining.
Also bring all needed personal creature comforts you may require.
Including:
H2O - bring plenty of aqua for yourself and others.
Sunscreen
Hat/gloves/sunglasses w/keeper strap
Medicines
Energy recharging snacks/fruits
Tofu - you know who !!??!!
Durable footwear
If you are in your own watercraft these items are necessary:
PFD - Personal Floatation Device-required to be worn on all club floats while underway on the water.
Painters - fore and aft of all craft
Extra paddle(s)
Items not required but most helpful:
Throw rope
First aid kit/items, i.e., moleskin/band aids for blisters & such.
If there is interest, we often do a float on Sunday morning. Leaving from camp for a 7 mile float to a landing just downstream from James Bridge. This also includes a romp in Althea Springs pool/raceway pour-over and outflow. Very refreshing to visit on a hot day.
