Arrive at Seagull Outfitters Sat, Sept 14. Spend night in the Seagull Outfitter bunk house. Seagull Outfitters is basically at the end of Gun Flint Trail, northwest of Grand Marais, MN (Far northeast corner of the state.)
Paddle Sept 15 - 22.
Spend night of Sept 22 in the Seagull Outfitter bunk house.
Depart Seagull Outfitters Monday, 23.
Trip will be self supported with wilderness camping. Lightweight tandem canoes are highly recommended as there will be portaging between lakes. High quality lightweight tandem canoes are available for renting at Seagull Outfitters for $47-$50/day.
Planned entry point is Seagull Lake. Final route will be determined once the make up of participants is known.
New to the Boundary Waters? If you have never paddled the Boundary Waters or Quetico Provincial Park (Canadian side), it is literally a land of 1000’s of lakes. There are no defined routes. You could spend days on a single large lake like Seagull lake exploring all of the islands. Or you can portage to other smaller lakes and explore other lakes. Want to fish? Fishing is really good in many of the lakes. My thought is we as a group will look at maps and map out our route. As for permits, you only need to specify your entry point, which I plan to be Seagull Lake.
Note, it is a 2 1/2 day drive to Seagull Outfitters from Memphis. Duluth, MN, is the closest airport. Kayak.com had flights as low as $450.00. I plan to drive so can haul gear for those who need to fly up.
