Herb Parsons Lake
Author Last Post

Since there is a fee for Herb Parsons Lake, I have decided to go to Hyde Lake in Shelby Farms at 4:00pm

IIRC, when we went, Mike Vernon paid the $6 usage fee for all 4 of us but did not pay for fishing licenses,  Still, the $6 seemed high compared to Poplar Tree Lake.

It's my impression that the lake is very popular with hikers, mountain bikers and fishermen.

Here are some statistics from the internet -

Herb Parsons Lake is a Reservoir lake located in Fayette County, Tennessee near the town of Eads. The lake is named after Herb Parsons an exhibition shooter. It is known primarily for its fishing, hiking and bicycle trails, and wildlife. Wikipedia
Area177 acres
Length4,950′ 0″
Max width2,400′ 0″
Poplar Tree Lake is listed as 125 acres, so Herb Parson;s is bigger.

Why would they require a fishing license to kayak? That's a rhetorical question, and no answer is required. So, is anyone going tomorrow, Kelly?

I saw your post, and I agree with you. Mike and Pauline Vernon, my wife Barbara and I tried out Herb Parson's.  It's fine, but similar to Poplar Tree Lake at Shelby Forest.  Personally, I wouldn't bother with it.  In my view, the extra expense is not worth it unless you intend to fish.

I called them and they said you have to have a TN fishing license PLUS a lake permit.  The cheapest cost to use the lake for the day is 6.00 for the fishing license and 6.50 for the lake permit. --$12.50

With that information, I am now not that enthusiastic about paddling there for just  a few hours.  I tried to remove this post but could not so I am just putting the information here for future reference.
