Wolf River Lost Swamp Section
Author Last Post
Beautiful as ever!
Nov 20, 2018 we had 7 paddlers: for the Lost Swamp Trail section of the Wolf River: Barbara and I, Geza Varay, Debra Dowda (guest), Jim Gafford, Paul Beebe and Dory Liggett.  The water level was good at almost 6.5 feet and it was a beautiful fall day.   Jim provided an update on the Conservancy including some land acquisitions as well as expert guidance during the paddle.

As noted on the Wolf River Conservancy website, the land owner at the take-up charges a $5 parking fee per vehicle.  At the suggestion of Jim Gafford, we minimized parking expense and relied on a single shuttle car for a  a back-end shuttle.

We launched around 10 am as announced and completed the paddle in 3 hours including a 1/2 break at the halfway point.  This left us plenty of time for a late lunch at the Wolf River Cafe in Rossville.     Here's some photos  of the paddle.
To confirm my previous post, I plan to launch at 10 am from the Bateman Bridge put-in.  Instructions for finding the put-in and a description for this section are on the Wolf River Conservancy website here:

We have a small group and I can provide a front end shuttle in my car.  I plan to be at the put-in by 9 am.  If you want to participate in the front end shuttle, please be  at the put-in and unloaded, ready to shuttle at 9:30 am.  If you miss this shuttle, we will make sure you get back to your car from the take-out.

Call me if you have any questions

Jim Gafford, Geza Varay, Debra Dowda and I are planning to paddle the Lost Swamp section of the Wolf River on Tuesday, November 20th with a launch time of 10:00 am.  If you are interested, please contact me and I will plan a shuttle according.

Here's a description of the Lost Swamp section posted on the website of the Wolf River Conservancy .  The river stage looks real good.  It's currently at 6.73 feet on the LaGrange Gauge.   We hope that it remains above 6 feet for Tuesday.

This is a very pretty section and an easy paddle.
The trip turned out well. The weather was beautiful and the water flow at 6.0 on the La Grange is adequate. We did not encounter any obstacles but hit a few "stick-ups".
Barbara and I plan to paddle with 2 friends tomorrow. We will do a back end shuttle and can fit in a couple more drivers.
