Bluff City Canoe Club

We meet most months, except December (when we have our annual Holiday Party) at The Main Library on Poplar Avenue in Memphis the first Wednesday of the month at 7 PM. Guests are welcome.  Please check our Forum  for any temporary changes to the meeting location, date or time.

The BCCC is a recreational organization consisting of over 180 member households representing the Memphis, Tennessee area with members located throughout the tri-state area, that love to paddle the rivers, streams and lakes of the Mid South. The BCCC was organized March 5, 1967 with the purpose being to develop, through membership, an interest in and an appreciation of the Mid South Area as related to the use of its natural and wild waterways for outdoor recreation and activities such as canoeing, camping and float fishing, and to cooperate with other organizations which are working toward the conservation and preservation of wilderness areas and streams.

Trips are offered approximately every other weekend from January through December. They range from family outings on Class I rivers to trips for expert kayakers and canoeists. The club regularly paddles regional rivers; however members have traveled nationally for extended paddling trips. Experienced leaders, who are not only familiar with the rivers, organize outings, plan shuttles, campgrounds and provide lists of canoe rentals.

The club is devoted to the enjoyment of the outdoors through canoeing, hiking, camping and biking. Not all trips involve paddling. Some are for several days of hiking, a bike trip here and there, even trips such as a week at Yellowstone National Park or a trip to Southwest Colorado. Our 2001 trip to Yellowstone was large enough to occupy 10 campsites and had about a dozen youngsters and teenagers.  In 2006 our trip to The North Fork of The White River in Missouri drew over 60 people with over a dozen youths.  We have people from 7 to 70 on our trips.
