April 18-20 2003 Jean Kendall will lead trip to the Arkansas Buffalo. Friday they will hike Lost Valley, paddle from Steele Creek to Kyles Landing on Saturday and then return home on Sunday. We will float the Arkansas Upper Buffalo during a long weekend of fun, April 18,19 and 20th. Camping will be at Steel Creek Campground and the float is ideal for beginners. Take I-40 to Russellville, go North on State Route 7 through Jasper, left on Ark State Route 74 and continue for approximately 10 miles. Look for BCCC campers when you get to Steel Creek. Friday will be a day for hiking and caving, so bring a flashlight, lunch and a camera. We will hike up to Eden Cave at Lost Valley Park, just a short trip from Steel Creek. We usually leave the campground about 10:00 am and plan to end the hike about 1:00 pm, just in time for lunch. Saturday the put-in will be at 9:00 am, as the shuttle is long and the trip down the river is about 9 miles and takes about 5 to 6 hours. We will stop and hike to Hemmed-in-Hallow, a 100-foot waterfall about a mile hike from the river. We will take out at Kyles Landing and then hope to eat supper and have a nice campfire that night. Sunday I plan to pack up and make a leisurely trip back to Memphis, so you can make plans to do as you like. Several outfitters operate in the area, Buffalo Outdoors is one of the closet to us, if you need to rent canoes. For further information call Jean Kendall, work - 576-6157.
