June 21-22: Saturday morning we put on the river with beautiful blue skies, perfect temperatures and of
course, the water is always "breathtakingly cold"! The group consisted of 18 folks in seven canoes
and one kayak. The adults were almost outnumbered by children (four teenagers and four "regular" kids).
All the new kids mastered the "wave train" technique. I was impressed by their great paddling
skills and good attitudes. Saturday’s lunch was at Turner Mill. Most of the kids enjoyed or pretended to enjoy sitting in the ice cold waterfall at the spring.
After setting up camp at White’s Creek, we hiked to the cave. It’s always a thrill for me to see and hear
kids experience this for the first time. Peter, Will and Wesley went into another room and explored for some time. The potluck dinner Saturday night was incredible. We dined on many gourmet dishes followed by turtle cheesecake and banana boats. Several critters were spotted on the river: many herons,
turtles, muskrats (or otters?), fish, snakes, ducks... and one mermaid was spotted by Phil Vance.
Thanks for making this trip a great experience. I even got thank-you notes from Judy and Elaine
Felsenthal! Paddlers: Judy & Elaine Felsenthal; Mary Braza & children; Peter, Maria & Johnny Ney; Heather Zach; Jamshid, Stephanie, Mariam & Ellen Nickbakht; Carroll Keith; Jack Chambers; Hal & Will Hadley; Sandy & Wes Stacks; Phil Vance.

LEVEN POINT RIVER (This is the correct date. The June Currents is incorrect)The Eleven Point River is an easy class 1 float through an area that is part of the original National Wild and
Scenic Rivers System. Whites Creek, is where we will camp from our canoes Saturday night. Bring a good flashlight, as we will explore White's Cave, which is near the campground. As this is a primitive camping experience, you will need to bring your own drinking and cooking water, toilet paper and a little firewood. We will have a potluck on Saturday night. Call me for food suggestions. Camping Friday night will be at the National Forest Service campground at Greer Crossing. We will put in there on Saturday morning at 9:30, and take out at Riverton around 3:00 pm Sunday. Then we will body surf some rapids and have a refreshing swim or two!
The directions are: Take I-55 north to Arkansas highway 63 (Jonesboro exit), then stay on 63 through Hardy and on into Thayer, Missouri. At Thayer take highway 19 towards Alton (DON'T take 63 to Koshkonong) and on through Greer to the Eleven Point River. Immediately after crossing the river turn right, and into the campground. Wood Canoe Rental will deliver boats to the put in, and shuttle our cars to their store at Riverton. The shuttle fee is about $18 per vehicle, which you will need to pay Saturday morning. Those who want to rent canoes must call Wood's in advance - 414-778-6497. If you have
